Comments to PCORI on Draft National Priorities for Research
HIVMA submitted comments to the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute highlighting the importance of assessing alternative approaches to preventing, diagnosing and treating HIV/AIDS and reducing associated concurrent conditions and health disparities.
PCORI-supported research could include, for example, studies that assess:
- strategies for the use of new and licensed antiretroviral therapy to minimize toxicities, increase adherence, decrease resistance, and increase durability of viral suppression;
- optimizing the “medical home” model of delivering HIV/AIDS care to improve the linkage and retention of care, the delivery of quality cost effective HIV care and treatment and management of co-concurrent conditions frequently seen among patients with HIV, including viral hepatitis and serious mental illnesses;
- effectiveness of task-shifting, patient empowerment and engagement, and technology enhancements to address medical workforce shortages
