An essential health benefits package that provides the flexibility to cover medically-necessary services for people with HIV/AIDS to stay healthy will result in better health outcomes for people with HIV/AIDS and reduce health expenditures.
As a result of our broken health care system, too many people living with HIV in the U.S. are not benefiting from the remarkable HIV care and treatment available today. An estimated 50 percent of people with HIV in the U.S. have reliable access to HIV treatment and less than 20 percent have undetectable levels of HIV in their blood . The ACA offers an unprecedented opportunity to create a health care system that works for people living with HIV and advances the goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy to reduce HIV incidence, increase access to care, improve health outcomes and reduce HIV-related disparities.
