  • HIVMA Praises Appointment of New Director of White House Office of National AIDS Policy

    03/14/2012

Statement from HIV Medicine Association Chair Judith A. Aberg, MD, FIDSA

We are excited about the appointment of Grant Colfax, MD, as the new director of the White House Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP). As a physician and public health official at the forefront of responding to the domestic AIDS epidemic as director of the HIV Prevention Section of the San Francisco Department of Health, Dr. Colfax brings invaluable experience and expertise to this important position. San Francisco’s HIV prevention and treatment efforts, including efforts to link people who are infected with the care and treatment they need, have become models for communities across the country in the fight against AIDS.

Dr. Colfax is an excellent choice to guide implementation of health care reform and the National HIV/AIDS Strategy and to firmly put us on course to mark the beginning of the end of AIDS. As HIV clinicians and researchers, we look forward to working with Dr. Colfax, along with the White House, Congress, and others, as we work to build on advances in HIV prevention and treatment research towards the ambitious goal of finally ending this pandemic.
