  • Stage II EHR Meaningful Use Comments

    HIVMA weighed in on the department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS’s) proposed rule for Stage II of the Medicare and Medicaid electronic health record (EHR) “meaningful use” incentive programs.  The Association’s comments largely address the same set of concerns noted in HIVMA’s March, 2010 comments on Stage I of the program, and express support for inclusion of four HIV and several Hepatitis-specific clinical quality measures in the “menu” set of clinical quality measures.

    Regulations governing the federal incentive programs for adopting and demonstrating meaningful use of certified EHR technology will significantly impact HIV medical providers and their patients, given that 40% of our HIV patients already rely on Medicaid and nearly 20% on Medicare programs – plus we anticipate large numbers of people with HIV will gain Medicaid coverage in 2014. We urge consideration of the following comments in finalizing Stage II EHR MU rule, many of which mirror and reprise concerns HIVMA expressed in March, 2010 comments on the proposed Stage I regulation:
