  • Essential Health Benefits Comments

HIVMA submitted comments in response to the Dec. 16th Bulletin urging Secretary Sebelius to create a higher minimum national standard for the essential health benefits by:

    1. Defining the service categories.
    2. Narrowing the benchmark plan options.
    3. Establish national protections to ensure coverage meets the standard of care for HIV and other chronic conditions.
    4. Protect against discriminatory service limits, utilization management and cost-sharing practices.
    5. Monitor for discrimination across all 50 states and ensure meaningful opportunities for public input.
    6. Establish federal standard for defining medical necessity based on clinical expertise and medical evidence.
