Who Can Join

Types of membership

Student/resident member

Medical students and residents with an interest in HIV are welcome to join HIVMA to explore a potential career in the field of infectious diseases focusing on HIV medicine.

Associate member

A person who works in the field of HIV medicine and does not have specific post-graduate training can join HIVMA as an associate member. Associate members must have primary professional activities/interests in HIV medicine.

Full member

If the majority of your professional activities are in HIV medicine, and you have a related specialty as listed, join HIVMA as a full member. Full members must have nurse practitioner or physician assistant OR doctoral level training (MD, DO, PharmD and/or PhD).

  • HIVMA encourages a comprehensive response to HIV/AIDS in the U.S. through adequate funding for HIV research, prevention, care, treatment and provider training and resources
  • HIVMA convenes the Ryan White Medical Providers Coalition to address critical policy and program issues that affect providers’ ability to deliver HIV care and treatment in communities across the country
  • HIVMA advocates for prevention, treatment, criminal law and other policies that are grounded in science, including harm reduction programs, such as syringe access programs
  • HIVMA is working to expand the capacity of the HIV medical workforce and address shortages of experienced HIV providers that could thwart access to lifesaving care for people with HIV
