HIVMA Appoints Marwan Haddad, MD, MPH, as Chair-Elect

The HIV Medicine Association is pleased to announce the special appointment of Marwan Haddad, MD, MPH, as chair-elect. Dr. Haddad served on the HIVMA Board of Directors from October 2017 to October 2020 and is medical director of the Center for Key Populations for Community Health Center, Inc. — one of the largest community health centers in the nation.

A family medicine trained physician, Dr. Haddad has been a leader in expanding access to integrated primary care, HIV, HCV and substance use treatment services for LGBTQ individuals, people who inject drugs, individuals without stable housing and individuals recently incarcerated within his Connecticut community. He has extended his reach by leveraging tele-education platforms to support clinicians in providing high-quality, comprehensive care in a diversity of settings throughout the United States and globally.

“Seeing the impact of COVID-19 on the populations who also have been disproportionately affected by HIV in our community and throughout the U.S. has left me more committed than ever to end HIV as an epidemic by improving access to integrated and comprehensive health care services for all in addition to addressing the underlying drivers of health inequities,” says Dr. Haddad.

Dr. Haddad is filling the vacancy left by Rochelle Walensky, MD, MPH, FIDSA, who was appointed by President-Elect Biden to serve as his designee to be the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
