HIVMA Welcomes USPSTF Release of Updated PrEP Rating

HIVMA welcomes the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force release of the draft updated Grade A recommendation for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for the prevention of HIV. The update to the 2019 recommendation retains the Grade A rating following a review of the latest evidence for PrEP, including for new long-acting formulations. The recommendation affirms the critical role of PrEP in ending HIV as an epidemic in the United States. It also underscores the urgent need to expand PrEP access to populations disproportionately impacted by HIV, including individuals identifying as Black and Latino/Hispanic, through a federally funded National PrEP Program.  The draft recommendation is open for comment until January 17, 2023.
