HIVMA gives HIV clinicians and researchers a voice in the federal policymaking process. All standing policy positions have been approved by the IDSA and HIVMA Boards of Directors.

In “To End the HIV Epidemic, We Need to Reach Unsheltered Homeless Populations,” an October 2023 article in Health Affairs Forefront, HIVMA members Wendy Armstrong, MD, FIDSA, Tyler Evans, MD, FIDSA, and Hansel Emory Tookes III, MD, MPH, called on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Health Resources and Services Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to implement policies to facilitate implementation of street medicine programs to reduce HIV disparities among people who are unhoused.
